Oliver 88 hydraulic control

I recently purchased a 1952 Oliver 88 Standard. The tractor has two levers on what appears to be a hydraulic control box that sits on top of the transmisstion housing just ahead of the brake pedals. There are two ports of each side of the box. The manual I purchased does not show any of this as it is apparently for earlier tractors. Can someone shed some light on this hydraulic system and what the levers are for? Thank you.

It is a hydraulic unit. Now depending if the hydraulic unit was on the tractor whenit was built or if it was added later when the later style hydraulic units became available. Can you furnish us a picture of the unit? do the handles come out of the side of the unit or out of the top of the unit. Also see the post below on the Super 77 that is loosing hydraulic fluid. Make sure you have fluid in the unit.

I would assume this hydraulic unit is suitable for use with remote outlets to activate low flow cylinders? Also is the fluid in this unit seperate from the tractors transmission and differential fluid or is it common?

It is a hydraulic unit. It takes its own fluid. Common hydraulic tractor fluid will work. Capacity is about 4-5 quart. You will need to obtain some fittings from a donor unit so you can control the rate of drop. I could not tell if the unit has a filter or not. Do you have 2 electrical switches by the steering wheel or have they been removed?
