Frustrating way to end the day

I got the 1600 all together minus the seat and the center portion of the platform. I want to start it up to check it out a little before I put the rest on, and the battery is dead. Not too dead, but dead enough I only get a click. I worked with the headlights on for a good 30-45 minutes the other night, so I must have ran it down enough to not have enough left to start.Has a new pos. cable to the starter (I switched it to neg. ground when I rebuilt it) and the ground cable looks good. I cleaned the terminals and cable ends. Still no crank.

Left the battery charger on set for desulfate (newer computerized charger) and hope it'll start tomorrow.

On another note, our 1755 will be getting loaded up to go down the road tomorrow. Had Bob Kramer from Fond Du Lac (located on hwy 23) up last weekend and he'll be coming up with his brother tomorrow morning. I've always wanted to fix it up, but between how long it's sat, that it didn't have any tires on it anymore (big $$$ to replace if rebuilding the tractor) and that we need a newer chopper more, we decided it's time to go. It'll be nice to not have to look at it every day too.

Don, you can always find a tractor down the road aways when the money is there. I don't think any one Oliver or White will be in too short of a supply.

Are you sure it's the battery and not the neutral safety switch? You had to unplug it when you took the top off didn't you? My 1550 wouldn't start either and the neutral safety never even worked. I made a jumper wire and hooked the two wires that go to the switch together and it started right up.

It clicks it just won't turn over. Charger is still going this morning so we'll see when it's done. Bob called this morning and has too many people coming out for parts so he won't make it today.

I have both an OTC battery tester and a cheap Harbor freight volt and load tester. When something happens like you describe, I grab the cheap tester first just to make sure the battery is charged enough to turn over a tractor. I use the OTC tester to check the problem with the battery before I put it on the junk pile.

Hey Don,
I feel you man. I always wanted you to fix up the 1755 too. In fact, I looked back at your old thread "if only I had money" several times over the years.I can't hardly stand the thought of letting any of the great Oliver tractors go.But I guess I'm too sentimental. Eventually everything has to be let go.
