Hydraulic pump

I purchased a used hydraulic pump for my 880. The pump was removed from my tractor by a previous owner. I bought a pump off E-Bay and was wondering if there is a way to check the pump before I install it. I will also have to replace the aluminum plate that the pump bolts to but I found a used one at a dealer that closed. Any suggestions on checking the Hydraulic system before I install it in the tractor?
Thanks

john, i would take the pump apart and make sure the center plate is not cracked, check the front and rear plates for wear from the pump gears. if the have any groves at all you can have a machine shop plane them back to flat. check the bearings and install new seals. chuck

Thanks for the reply chucksoliver77. I will get it torn down when it gets here. Are the seals and bearings standard auto parts store items?

john, i get my seals from korves oliver, 618-939-6681. do you have a shop manual for the 880? it would come in handy as you work on your hydraulic system. chuck

Make sure you wash the plate good and if your old pump failed it would not hurt to disassemble the valves to get any grit out. Hot soapy water would work better than solvent. Don't get too carried away setting the relief valve otherwise you will crack the center housing.
