Oliver 99 diesel, NOT super 99 :: Is it rare?

Ok, dumb question here coming from a Deere guy (the other green :p )

My neighbor has an Oliver 99 diesel that he wants to sell me. According to him they were only made for one year before the super 99 came out and there is not that many around. So are these tractors rare or not?

Even thought I'm a Deere guy I appreciate "odd" tractors. Not to mention it seems like a big, beefy tractor and kinda reminds me of an 830.

The engine is stuck but he claims it's not that bad. New radiator, new fenders, new platform, good hood, and a few other things all professionally redone.

Now here is my second question, what would be a fair price to pay for this?

Thanks

They are fairly rare, they made around 950 diesels if it was gas it would be a lot better. The biggest problem is the motor the 302 is very hard to find part for not to mention you have to machine the block for the sleeves. It does have some value as many parts do fit a super or you could restore it depending on the engine condition.

Others can probably help more than I can but heres what I found in Brian Rukes Oliver Tractor Data Book - Oliver 99 was an extension of the Oliver 90 line based on a 443 ci 4 cyl Waukesha gas engine - transition from 90 designation to 99 appears to be 1947 - the 99 was made up to 1952. Can't find any ref to Diesels.

The Super 99 was made from 1954-1958 and was available in 3 engine configurations - a 6 cyl Waukesha gas, a 302 ci 6 cyl Waukesha diesel, and of course the Super 99 GM Diesel. Don't know whether all 3 configurations were made all years - but if you post serial number I can probably pin down year made.

My guess is if its diesel its the Super 99 Waukesha diesel - still a nice tractor and worth restoring, but no where near the value of a GM diesel.

Stuck, depending on condition of rest of tractor including sheetmetal and Tire$ I would guess $1000-2000. Base weight should be around 7000 pounds - so scrap value in neighborhood of $700 delivered to recycler - not that I'm advocating that, but it is a frequent point of reference.

Best, Ed

From your decription it is a 1953 99. Frist year they were styled. 1954 brought out the supers. Should have the 302 engine. Are they rare? Depends on your idea of rare. They do have a value similar to the supers, and if it were gas engine, even more so. My opinion. Others my vary.

its a one year tractor. it has the new styling like the other fleetlines. it has the fleetline 302 engines, hard to gets parts for them, and the old unstyled 99 trasnmission, 4 forward, 1 reverse. don't know if they are really rare but they are hard to come by and can be as expensive as a super, either way i wouldn't mind having a nice 60 horse oliver like that.

If someone tried to start it or turn it over, then probably the plunger on the injection pump also broke. So make the screwdriver test first or unhook the pump drive gear or kiss 750 to 900 dollars good by.

He was on the right post, the bosch pump freezes up after a couple years then when you go to start it it the hydraulic head breaks, I wrecked one on a 950 last year.

i have a very straight '53 99 gas and it is VERY difficult to find parts for the engine but as they were only made in 1953 they are a collector diesel or gas.
