Has anyone else had troube with fleetline Olivers shifting? I have to fight to get mine to shift into the high or low ranges of the transmission. Does anyone have any tips?

I had a 66 that was that way. I worked it up and down a lot of times and it became easier. When I changed the transmission oil it had water in the bottom when I drained it out. I assumed that it had rusted the ball springs in the rails. Not sure though. I didn't take the top off to check the rails.

I see by your handle, (F20) your probably a Farmall guy, who has an Oliver. That's okay, I have a bunch of Olivers with an odd ball Farmall. First off, let go of the shifter. Use the palm of your hand to quickly shove the shifter from high to low, and turn your palm up to shove it back to high again. Letting go of the shifter should let it go back to center, which lines it up to the center of the H.

You can also have wear in the detent notches. After all your 88 maybe or is 60 years old and has seen many shifts.

Yeah, I'm a major F-20 fanatic, but my grandpa has most of the Olivers. I work on each brand though and like them both for different reasons. We just bought this tractor from a friend and have been trying to fix it up a little bit. "Row Crop," I had been told that method of shifting before and haven't had much luck. I had heard that the detent notches were possibly worn, but how do I go about fixing them? I haven't had it apart lately, but everthing looked to be OK.

I am scrapping out my 88 Oliver parts I have had around for many years. I tossed two sets of rails on the truck this last weekend and I am sure one of them was an 88 set. I didn't inspect them to see if they were any good. I will dig them off the truck and look them over if your interested. You can have them for the ride if they are good. I have two or three 88 frames and transmissions at the other place that I am going to scrap out as well. No idea when I will get to them. Snowballs will be knee deep before I know it and I don't do well in the cold anymore.
