Hydraulics bouncing - Oliver 1550

Hello, I'm posting for my BIL. He has a 1550 with a loader on it (not sure of the brand), but it has down pressure. The hydraulics are causing the loader to bounce on when going down, but not on the way up.

We also hooked it up to a haybine with a 2 way cylinder and it raised it smoothly, but bounced wildly on the way down. We switched the hoses so the valve was working the other way and had the same result. Smooth on when lifting, bouncing when going down.

The haybine works perfect on my 560, so we know it is in the Oliver somewhere.

Any ideas for things to check? I thought there may be a plugged screen somewhere in the hydraulic block, but I don't know much about Olivers.

Thanks in advance.

Do you have an operators manual? The weight (load) in the bucket and the weight of the haybine forces the oil out of the cylinders. You need to restrict the flow going out so the flow from the hydraulic pump pushes the load down. There is a restrictor adjustment for each remote valve. You are caviating the cylinders and that is not good.

I don't think he got one when he bought the tractor, but maybe we will have to pick one up. Too much flow would make some sense, although it seems like no matter how slow or fast he lets it down it still bounces.

Is there flow restriction right on the side of the hydraulic bank under the seat? I think I saw some threaded adjustments, one on either side of the seat, not sure if that is the adjustment or not.

Yes, there should be two caps on each side, which contain
adjustment screws. On the left side, the more forward cap controls
restriction. The more rearward one changes single/double acting
cylinders. Turn the screw in to increase restriction. You also need
to have the cylinder connected correctly as the restriction only
applies to one direction, not both.

My 1550 with a IH loader dose the same thing, When you hook a disk to it and start letting it down it bounces the loader and the disc. The problem is there is a internal leak in the valve body. An easy fix is to reverce the loaded hoses so when you lower the haybine the loader will raise alittle and not bounce. Hard to explane but it works. Oliver dealer told me this fix. Bandit

Was able to adjust it this weekend. Worked like a charm. Once we turned the restrictor in, the loader and haybine can be set down smooth as silk.

Very valuable information on these forums and I appreciate people sharing their knowledge.
