Cockshutt 40 belt work with a widefront

I have a question that is probably quiet obvious but not to me I guess. I am fairly young (28) so I didn't operate these tractors when they were new. I have done a fair amount of belt work at my local show running a shingle mill and other items, but always with a narrow front tractor. I want to use my one of my 40s with an an adjustable wide front to do belt work. However, I don't want the belt messing up the paint on the wide front or hurt the belt. Do you straddle the belt so it is above the axle and below it so it doesn't rub? Thanks, Matt

Sits low enough it seems that it will, the shingle
mill the belt is very low on. Might be ok on other
things. I will just need to try it and see. Note I
have a new pulley this one pictured is junk and it
won't be this 40 be one I have painted.

Oh, that looks like it's up like an Oliver. I think you'll be OK, if you keep the belt snugged up. If the shingle mill pulley is low, you could go with w little longer drive belt.

You'll notice on this 550 Cockshutt setup I just dug out a couple shovels of dirt (piled inside front wheel) to get enough clearance. Alternatively, you could raise the rearend if need be.
