Remote ends

On my 550 I have remote hydraulics that I never use. Well this year I plan on using them on some hay equipment. They ends of the remotes attach to a bracket mounted on top of the right axle and the ends themselves are threaded male ends.
I need to switch these over to quick couplings so I'll be taking the originals off. What were these threaded fittings used for? A buddy thought maybe a plow type fitting but wasn't sure.

If it's what I think it is,it is just another type of quick coupler. Does it have like a large nipple in the center of it? How about a cast mounting bracket with a female coupler in the center of it? There was a matching end on the cylinder hose that hooked up to it. If memory serves me right, you had to use a big screwdriver to snap the 2 ends together.

The way you describe it, the ends you have are Aeroquip ends. They were the standard end at that time. You do not have the bracket that they would go in that would make them a break-a-way set up. Don't loose the bracket or the male ends. I would convert it over to the newer style Pioneer break-a-way set up unless you have other tractors with another style of breakaway. Confused?

The remote ends do have a large nipple in the center of them. Between the two male ends there is something that likes it could be a female end but there isn't anything hooked to it.
I'll try to post a photo of it when I get back home.
I will have to convert it to the Pioneer set up for the equipment that I'll be using.

Well here are a couple of photos of the remote ends and bracket on the tractor.

Yep,they're exactly what J and I thought they were. There's another end that mates up to it that goes on the cylinder hoses and makes for a breakaway like J says. That's what was on my first 77 that I bought back in 69.

Thanks for the tip. I'll probably hang onto them but I will be switching them to the Pioneer set up. I have to see what the implements have on them that I'll be using (haven't bought them yet).
