I have a 88 gas that I cant seem seem to find the correct engine oil filter for, The old filter had the numbers worn off so i cant match it that way. The filter housing has the threads that stick up through the center like a normal filter would. I"ve tried a few oliver filters and cant find the correct one, the closest one I have came up with is for a 1650 but the threads are to small in my housing. any idea what filter this may take? thanks for any help

Most filter companies have a search. Here is the Wix number. 51105

http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=51105

The filter has a "Mason Jar' type thread and a rubber or cork seal around them, that screws into the filter base. Make sure the filter you buy has the seal ring in the package, and make sure you remove the old ring before inserting the filter, as it will leak badly if there are two rings on it, and if tightend to try to seal, you will strip out the pressed metal threads on the filter body. Don't ask how I know...:)>) AGCO/Oliver filter number is 100126ASA, Baldwin filter is PT302, a Fram filter is C252, Fleetguard is LF592, Wix is 51105, NAPA is 1105, and AC filter carries a P411 number. I am sure you will be able to find a local supplier, armed with this list, and if you are in doubt, drain the filter and take it along to your local NAPA or other auto parts store. They will help you out for sure, since they want your $$$ and return business. These numbers are for the gas motor. There is another list for the same tractors, but with diesel motors. Good Luck!!!

If a 1650 filter is close but not, someone changed the filter base. 88 oil filters have the threads on the outside. 1650 (gas filters have the threads on the inside. Do you have a casting number for the filter base>

I replaced the filter housing because the stock 88 base had stripped and got this new base and was told its from a 1650 but those filters have to large of threads. but ill get the number off my base tomorrow,,, thanks for now

Well here you go. The 1650 filter bolt pattern is not even close to that of an 88. So go around by the starter and get the block casting numbers so I can determine if you have an 88 block. Also what size is the thread (diameter would be a good starting point) on the filter base you do have?

The block numbers are 190320 K100G, The filter base has 104 1304 or 130A the numbers are hard to read on it. the threads are 1 5/8 on the outside and the hole in the center is 7/8. I hope this helps thanks

I was thinking that was probably the filter base you have as it bolts right up. The part number would be 104 130A. I will double check it, but I am thinking 1800 A series engines. The filter was 104 397-A ( I am going by memory on this stuff). I have not changed one of those in 35 years. I will double check. J.

You need to be carefull here. The 88's had a restrictor in the base to keep the oil preasure up. Those new bases had the restrictor in the filter. The 1650 filter will not fit ,but lots of other filters will and don't have the restrictor in them. When you get a filter look in the bottem and it should be blocked off except for a small pin hole.
