Oliver 77 hung in gear

hey ive got an 77 that is hung in the high gears section of the transmission(4,3,6,R2) it will go in all those gears fine it just wont go back down into the lower 4 gears(2,1,5,R1) i would like to know whats wrong pulling seasons fixing to start. Thanks, steve

Hopefully it's a simple fix.

Take the 2 bolts out that hold the shifter and lift the retainer and the shifter out together. CAUTION: There are 2 springs under the retainer - -- DO NOT LET THESE FALL INTO THE TRANSMISSION!
Look into the tranny through the hole and notice the 2 rails that run from the front to the back. There is a notch in each of these rails...with a huge screwdriver or pry bar line up the notches side by side, reinstall the shifter into the notch, CAREFULLY put your springs in and bolt it down.

About a 2 beer job!

Good luck.

How have the temperatures been lately?? Freezing?? My Super 88 had same problem a few weeks ago, was near zero at night and about 25 when I started it, moved over to wood pile, hooked up hydraulics to splitter and worked it for 45 minutes, everything warmed up and shifter worked, I figure condensation froze the little poppet ball for the center shift rail. Works fine now...
