Oliver 770 tractor will not stay in thrid gear. You can even try and hold it in gear and it will pop right out. What problem should I be looking for or what will I most likely fine when we get into the transmission? I have ordered the I&T manual but haven't gotten it yet. Also if it a busted gear how easy are they to find. This is a very good friends of mine and I really would like to help him with this tractor. He's in his late sixthys and the tractor belonged to his father. So it has a lot of value to him.
Thanks for any help or advise it would be a great help!

it could be something simple like a detent spring or ball i have not worked on a 770 shifter but i would start with the easy stuff to fix first David

I had the same problem once. Turned out to be a spring retainer
clip on the shaft that broke, allowing the gear to slide beyond
where it was supposed to be. Look in the bottom for two halves of
this clip, you don't want them to get picked up and caught between
anything else.
