Cockshutt 502 Swather- Need Info

I'm buyin a Cockshutt 502 swather this weekend, and would like some info on it if possible. I'll be driving it home about 100kms or so, since it won't fit easily on a standard trailer. If it breaks down I'll use a swather tow bar and tow it.

What I'd like to know is, what is the top speed on these swathers? It has a 2 cylinder Wisconsin gas engine, about 30HP I think? Also, how much would it weigh? It's a 12 foot cut if I remember correctly, and the crimper will not be attached. Sorry if some of those questions are stupid, I don't know too much about these older swathers, figured it wouldn't hurt to add a good running and operating one to the collection, and especially for only $350 :D .

Your questions are not stupid. I will try to answer some of them.

The 1963 advertising brochure on the Cockshutt 502 swather says the speed range is from 2 to 8 MPH. The weight is not listed in the brochure. There is a picture of the swather with the tow bar attached to the rear caster wheel, and it says "the drive chain is removed easily for towing".

Minn. Moline called that swather the model 101. They were still selling them in 1969, but they did not tell what it weighs either.

If it would be of any help, the 503 which is the same basic machine with a 4 cylinder Wisconsin engine weighs 3035 Lb.

One word of caution, the steering clutches tend to stick when the machine is exposed to the weather.  It can be rather exciting when you can't stop the machine when you start it or one clutch sticks and around in a circle you go, hoping nothing is in the way!  We always chained it to a tractor when we started it the first time each year.

Thanks for the help guys! I was told it has been inside all its life, and it looks like it has, so hopefully I won't have any problems with stuck steering cluthes.
