Your LD 465 engines are the Military engines. The 2150 was a DT4800 Hercules. About 15 years ago I did a short machine shop class for a certain states National Guard on those engines. We actually used some 2-135 components but Hercules send me about 40 pages of information concerning differences between the 2 engines. With that being said the military engines run smoother and have a better crankshaft than the civilian engines.Compression is different and in some cases you can finds parts yet when they built as a multifuel engine. What do you have in mind to start with?

I believe that both the ldt-465 and the lds-465 are both turboed. The s motor I believe was used in the 5 ton trucks and the t motor was used in the 2 1/2 ton trucks. I beleieve that the s turbo is alittle bigger.

As J said, all the ld motors were military and the 2050, 2150 and White 2-135 and 2-155 motors were similar but there are differences. The manifolds were the main difference. Tractor manifolds had the turbo on top and the trucks turbo was on the bottom. The water pump, oil pan, and timing gears were also different.

As J said, some of these ld engines had better crankshafts but not all of them. I have five of these motors and only one has the better crankshaft. I think that only the turboed truck motors had the better crankshaft.

oh, i dont know. my herc still runs good and has lots of power but by the end of tillage she is drenched in oil. this winter i put a newer oil filter base off of a white on it. replaced the inspection cover and valve cover gaskets and it was still filthy. i wouldt mind putting a new motor in her. i have seen these gov't motors and wondered what they were. are they both a good choice in a tractor? are they 478 cu in? thanks

The truck motors are 478 cu. in just like the 2150 motor. Some people say that the compression ratio is a little higher on the truck motors but I have both engines apart and I can't see any real difference in the pistons other than the tractors have 3 piston rings and the trucks have 4 rings. The truck motor can be swapped into the tractor but you will have to change the manifolds, water manifolds, thermostat housing, water pump, oil pan, injection pump and possibly timing gears and oil pump. The truck timing gears and the 2150 timing gears may be the same but the gears, timing plate and front timing cover on the 2-135 and 2-155 are definitely different because of the roosamaster pump. Also you will have to drill and tap three new holes in the truck motor to mount the water pump. One other differenc is that the connecting rods are lighter in the truck motors. Not that this will be an issue because I run the lighter ones in my pulling tractor and have no problems.

The popular way to fix a Herc seems to be to drop in a Cummins. I've got three 478s' on the place ,and while overhaul kits used to be sky high they have come down somewhat. I just love the sound of the "wispering diesel" ,and even though they aren't as fuel friendly, the 135 and 155s' seemed to outpull the 140s' and 160s' that replaced them.
