Gemmer Hydraguide 213810

Hello Everyone and thanks in advance for help with the following problem:

Some of what I am about to say is likely bad guess-work, but is the best I have come up with so far.

I have the Gemmer Hydraguide from an Oliver 770 tractor with the 778 Loader. Problem is steering is slipping on turns which I believe to be caused by broken helix gear splines.

I bought a replacement unit, but this "new" unit has the center spool reversed. It is also yellow, which I am guessing means it likely came off a Cockshutt.

What I cannot find out, and hope to have help with, is information on assembly/disassembly.

Is the sleeve press-fit into the housing? Does the helix gear shaft need to be removed - and how?

Basically, any reference or info on disassembly would be appreciated. Thanks.

Charlie

above link is a picture of the units

These are the 2 units, note the spool reversal. The green (right hand) is from the unit, yellow (left side) is "new".

I need to reverse the orientation of the spool for it to work/fit the tractor I have.

The one on the left is for an industrial tractor. The one on the right if for an ag tractor. On the industrial unit they sit in the tub the other way. Me I would consider going to hydrostatic steering. Can it be reversed, I need to do some reading and it will not be before Wednesday(next wek)

Thanks for reply - again. Your comment raises a question. What would be required to switch to hydrostatic steering?

I also appreciate any info you can give, when you can, on flipping the spool,

Thanks,

Charlie
