Yesterday I went to the local New Holland dealer and purchased the oil that they say they use in 8 N Fords.
The oil is Ambra Mastertran Ultraction hydraulic transmission oil

Mat 3540

I know all about the ford spec it's supposed to meet but it don't tell the specs. on the bucket.

Is this the right stuff for my little baby or not ? :? Thanks

Jack

It's easy to find generic UTF fluids at most part and farm stores in 5g pails.

If it costs between 35-50$ it's usually ok stuff.

Ocasionally you see some 20-25$ stuff, that while is ok in an old ford in warm climates, might not be fantastic in cold climates.

The stuff TSC sells is going to be the cheapest, is actually just SAE-90 Gear Oil. Comes in 2 gallon jugs. Capacity of sump is 5 gallons but I never put that much in as it will leak out. Go slow, adding up to the full 4 gallons and keep checking often. It should be ok with 4 gallons.

Thanks Dean, I can sleep better now knowing that I don't have to throw away that $80.00 bucket of oil.

It is what CNH recommends not but not what was originally specified when these tractors were sold in the 1940s-1950s.

The CNH recommended oil performs much better, expecially in cold weather, but is somewhat more prone to leakage.
