If you have to ask what it is, that tells me you do not have the manuals. I would suggest you get at least the FO-4 service manual. You will find you will use it all the time. I know mine is getting pretty dog eared from all of the use.

It is the brake actuating shaft, disconnect the linkage to it and it will come away with the trumpet.
You only need to remove the wheel and mudguard, (mudguard can stay on but gets in the way) drain the oil and then remove the ring of nuts/bolts holding the trumpet to the rear end casing, then remove the trumpet complete with the brake assy still attached, use a floor crane or get an assistant, I used to do these on my own years ago as the link pins were always coming loose or breaking in Massey 135s and 148s with no lifting equipment and now have a bad back.
Do one side at a time then the diff will stay in place with the other side axle shaft still supporting it.
