I live outside Jefferson City Missouri. I have been told my front yard was the site of a lead mine. We were told this by a gentleman who grew up here. His family owned several hundred acres. The remains of his family home are still here. Learned a lot of history from him. When he was a kid they did not have tractors.

I once worked for the St Joe Lead Company but not in the lead mines. Both the lead mines and the lead smelter were H*ll place to work.

A lot of those Missouri lead mines are (were) just a couple of hours from here. I wonder if they're still down there?

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

I'm in Jersey County, IL (about 45 mins north of St. Louis area, just across the Mississippi from St. Charles, MO).

This Ford tractor is the third to follow its nose straight down the shaft of this Missouri lead mine. At the bottom, a tenth of a mile underground, it will begin working 16 hours a day in tire sucking muck and 98% humidity. It will hustle tools and repair parts to carryalls, high lifts and other vital machinery. It will provide quick, maneuverable transport for foreman. And it will stay there – serviced by the mine’s welding and maintenance shop – for all the years of its work life.

Mining is not a primary market for Ford tractors. Scores of other industries have far greater uses for Ford tractors and their matching loaders, backhoes and other equipment. But few industries demand more of a tractor. It’s gratifying that this company too replace its Fords with Fords.

Is tractor dependability important in your business? Your Ford tractor dealer has models in almost every size, all available with dramatic new “shift-on-the-go” Select-O-Speed. Why not talk to him, or write to Industrial Tractor and Equipment Department, Ford Motor Company, Birmingham, Michigan.
