Combining is done and the straw is baled. I have 3 acres of hay down that should be baled by Friday. Still have to spread some poo and till it in. Things are starting to wind down for me this year. Now just gotta make it through the winter. that means that I have to get the snow blower mounted on the big tractor and check it over once the manure and tillage part is done.

Got some turkeys to butcher yet. May have to look at buying another heifer. Would like to wait on that because they are expensive right now.

Rick

Speaking of canning, we just canned some chicken, beef and pork and I was wondering how many people can meat these days?

Glad to hear, Rick. Today was the first day we felt like things were starting to slow down. I have deliveries to make in the Cities tomorrow, and we'll start butchering lambs next week. Other than that, it's time to clean up, fix things, and cut wood for 2015-16.

The weather is in your favor! Do you raise turkeys? Butcher your own cow? Ive been tempted to buy 1/4 or half a cow with the way meat prices have been. They're talking nasty cold and lots of snow again this year. oh joy

Been hearing the same thing, Lisa. It's either classic Minnesotan "expect the worst and be pleased if it's just really bad" or it really is going to be another miserable winter. Either way, we're going to have our tomatoes canned and plenty of wood in the woodshed.

Yes and yes. Most years I raise feeder pigs too. We do all of our own butchering and make/smoke out own hams.

Winter will bring what it brings.
