Just received the generator that we spoke about the other day. Unfortunately (Big Bummer)it arrived badly damaged. Now I am on the hunt for a bracket and pulley.( Please drop me a line if anyone has a set to sell. )

Any how, I added picts below regarding the measurements that you were interested in.

Definitely a 2 brush and a "B" circuit genny. Field wires connect to GRD and FIELD Lugs. Not to mention the VR that was included has two resistors both connected to the FIELD connector on the VR.

Markings on the barrel are 5794 (which I believe is a Lester 5794). The other marking is FORD D-6 which I cant find referenced anywhere. Lester 5794's were used in 60's Mercury's and I believe Buicks.

Took it apart but the armature has no markings on it at all but internals are in great shape. If I spin the armature buy hand, I get about a 3/4 of a volt at the ARM and GRD terminals.

I still cant determine if it is a 6 volt or 12 volt genny. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. The seller had no clue what he was selling. He sold it as a 6 volt 8N genny.

I am hoping that it is a 12 volt genny. So that when I can find a pulley and a mounting bracket, I can use it and convert up to a 12volt system but keep the look original.
Have you measured the Field resistance, yet?
~ 3.9 ohms which leads me to believe it is a 6 volt field coil.?

that looks like the late front mount 8N genny. I bought two of them off Ebay and they arrived in perfect shape. sounds like your seller didnt know how to pack them properly.

If I was a betting man, I'd say its 6v- for the simple fact that is would have come 6v and 90% of the people out there simple remove the 6v genny and replace with an alternator in a 12v swap

Looks very 8N-ish. Odd to be a B-ckt, but..... ....in 70 years, who knows? Thanks for the measurements.
Did you notice that 15 1/2 divided by pi (3.1416) is 4.9, & not the 4 1/2 of the stick ruler?

Does the back plate have a 3rd brush, could that be an early 8n? Might be reason for b ckt reg?

One side of fields grounded, other side of fields to brush, but also having a field tab?

There is no third brush or seems like it was ever modified..

Field Coil goes to FIELD Stud and GRD stud.

One brush Goes to case GRD and the other brush goes to ARM stud.

Any idea how to best determine if it is a 12 V or 6 V genny???

Actually it is the angle of the camera.

You forced me to pull out the old analog caliper. More like 4.840"

Lisa at the moment we are trying to come up with an amicable resolution. Its really not the sellers and/or the buyers fault but rather USPS. But dealing with them is like dealing with the IRS.

Definitely interested. Will text you.

I have a bracket. I'm not sure what pulley is on It and the only reason I didn't sell it to another forum member is someone welded a tensioner on the case....aka farmerization. This is on what was a running tractor I plan to part out. I can sure just mail u the whole thing for under $13 and u can pull the bracket and pulley. I know if I sold a part and it arrived broke. I would refund the money or replace it at no charge. Have u told the seller that?
