Greetings Forum Chums,
Is there any way to know the year of manufacture for the rear end of an 8n built 47-52.....Engine I know.....for that matter...other than linkage type....how do you date the year of manufacture for a transmission?

very bottom of the tractor, next to the drain plug for the diff is a date stamp.
our two tractors are stamped:

12-15- 47
and
12- 15-48

so means we have a 48 and a 49 8n

Yep, and probably well into both of those years.

Since cast iron parts are typically allowed to "season" before machining and the fact that this was before "just in time" inventory control, the parts were probably cast a good part of a year before the tractors were assembled.
