We had been keeping an eye out for a good tractor for this son of a friend of mine who helps out a lot around the farm and is a nice boy besides.
Thought we might find him a 2000 or 3000 that needed some work that he could learn on.
Even a Hundred Series would do.
I had found this tractor a while back but am tractor poor right now so couldn't move on it myself.
I mentioned it to my friend who is a dairy farmer and has several big Blue Fords.
So they made the deal and I went with them today just to ride along and maybe lend a hand getting it loaded so they could haul it home.
We had to turn the wheels around as it was too wide for the trailer so it took a while getting it loaded.
It was fun though. The boy helping where he could and smart enough to stay out of the way when we were wrasseling the big loaded tires around.
Yacking in the pickup, learning about Mustangs which he likes.
The tractor needs some engine work so it wont be an overnight project. He says he's going to buy, fix up and sell a couple of them so he can get more money to buy a nice one for himself.
Sounds like a good plan to me.
Especially since he's starting young and has the time.
By the time he gets our age he'll be a real tractor guru.
It was getting dark and I forgot my camera so these cell phone pictures are all I got.
You can't quite see it but his chest is out and he's pretty darned proud of his 'new' tractor.
I kind of wish I could hear the talk in school on Monday.
A Ford 4000 would be serious bragging rights for any 9 year old if you know what I mean.
I was pleased to ride along with them.
Just a nice day that makes you grateful to be a part of the Ford Community.

Tractor's kinda big right now but I suspect he'll grow into it.
It's still nice to sit on your own tractor for a change.

I probably wouldn't have seen this thread if I hadn't been told about it. Yes, that's me and my boys - Luke (9) and Ethan (5). And yes, he IS pretty darned proud of his tractor. Every so often on the ride home, I'd hear things like, "This is a really good first tractor." "I really like this tractor." "Dad, how old were you when you got your first tractor?" (I was 19 or 20) "What jobs can we do with a 4000?"
I printed out a picture of it, so he could take it to school today. He's already told about anyone at church who would listen about it. He was a little upset that we didn't have time yesterday to at least get it unloaded. We'll do that today, and swap the tires back and put the fenders back on later this week. But then it's going to have to sit until I can get the basketcase 5000 finished up and out of the garage. I'll occasionally post some progress pics...probably on the Ford forum.

Good job and not a bad looking tractor either. I love my 4000 and will use it tomorrow to till all the gardens. It handles a 6' tiller just fine.

Hat's off for helping the younger guy out. A lot of parents wouldn't do that. Not a bad looking tractor either.

Jerry, it's good of you to help that young man out! Looks like he's pretty happy!

Now if you'd just help me find a cheap affordable 2000!

Good job!

Rick

Good deal, another young man willing to learn to turn a wrench.

I think it will fit him just fine once he (they) gets it going!

Did it come with a key? ;)

He is indeed a lucky young man, in more ways than one. My hat is off to you for helping him get started.
