thanks for all the follow ups last night. found out at daylight that a 30 amp fuse at the ignition switch was blown, any ideas why? my wiring looks like it was ripped from a kenmore washing machine. don't get me wrong i like kenmore, but not under the hood. i've been converted to 12v ( 1-wire alt ) but the 1 wire splits about 6 ways in a jumble of wire. I just got the genesee electric ignition 2 days ago with the "HOT COIL" they are so fond of there. probably would not have put them in until spring but well i'm sitting dead now anyway.
I need help rewiring, i have the diagram that has been posted here before, but do I need a voltage regulator, there is one in line now. also i have a 2x2 flat piece of metal with a spring across the top and juice passing through it, resistor i'm guessing. do i need it.
as always help is appreciatied.

The 1 wire alt already has voltage regulation built in. And the spring thing is a original style resistor. Take it off and save it as they are no longer available at least here. Does Genesee recommend a resistor with that coil? Normally the 12V coils run without a resistor. Some use 6V coils and use two resistors. Check out the Genesee website. THere's lots of good technical info there. And check that your light wiring is not shorting out anywhere. ( Or melting on the hot manifold, either) Best wishes for a sucessful return to N power!

An external voltage regulator is not required on a one wire altinator. The altinator has an integral regulator. Your best bet would be to rewire the tractor. The best way is to go to an auto supply store and buy some 10 and 12 gauge wire in a few different colors and some terminals. When I bought my tractor, the wiring looked like "Who did it and ran?" I ripped everything out, and yes, I snaked the wiring trough the ignition tube. The thingy with the spring is probably the ballast resistor and probably not needed for an electronic ignition system. Happy Motoring
