Just received my point set bought from the store here. The brand is Tisco. What I thought I ordered was a blue streak set. Are they the same? Sort of recall that Tisco points set are the cheaper set but the set cost $$

This is why I put an electronic ignition module in my 1949 front mount. Good front mount points are getting difficult to find and as you can tell you don't know what you will get until they arrive. You also don't know how long they will last until you put them in. Many times over the past years I got 1/2 finished mowing the lawn or some other job when the points closed up and the tractor quit. The worst is when you are pushing snow. That really pi$$es me off. I don't care if it cost a lot more for EI. I want it to do work not get 1/2 done and need fixing. Ten years ago I could buy good points at any Ag store. Now I don't who carries which brand and if it will change next week.

NoxJohn,

What did you use for a resistor for your electronic ignition kit? Did you use the pertronix 1247?

Odder and odder. If I do a search for 6769X I get a bunch of listings for Standard premium point set, for $9 to $45, usually described as non-pierced.

If I do a search for A0NN12107ABS I get a bunch of listings for Standard points, and a lot for Tisco,. Most of the Tisco points, are also described as being Standard or Blue Streaks.

Either Tisco really is (or once was) selling Standard, or lot of vendors don't have a clue what they are selling. I suspect the latter -buyer beware!

This thread reminded me I needed some points so I went to Rockauto to see what they had. Which was the Standard 6769X for a tad under $10. They also had a few sets of what were described as the same thing, only in private labeling packaging for $5. The picture showed them with the good phenolic block so I grabbed them, will be interesting to see what i get.

Interestingly enough, the description for both list them as non-
ventilated even though they are also described as being the premium 6969X set.

I have been using Rockauto a lot for small stuff lately since they'll ship small items First Class, which can save a lot
Oh, I recall hearing a while back that Echlin, which makes the good stuff for NAPA, is owned by Standard. Whether this means the NAPA and Echlin points are the same as the Standards is anyones guess.

NAPA bought Echlin decades ago (1960s?).

Not sure who owns Std. Ign. these days but it is highly unlikely that they are still independent.

In years past, both Std. Ign, Blue Streak and Echlin premium line were very good sets but they were NOT identical. Who knows, these days.

Dean,
According to the link I posted SMP is an independent, NYSE listed company. Also according to that link SMP became a supplier to NAPA Echlin in the 2000's.

Tisco offers both a conventional/counterfeit set and a BS set... The conventional/counterfeit style works fairly well in every thing but a P.O.S. front mount... If I had a FM and skeered of EI I would buy a pocket full of BS points because I spec someday BS points will become extinct and Y'all that hang on to a points FM will be stuck with counterfeit...
A conventional set now days is a counterfeit of a quality set of the past... For the most part a counterfeit set performed along with a quality set in most applications except a FM...

Most of you never knew what a quality set of points were till you got your hands on a FM because if you did have the opportunity to install a set of points you would never have known the difference. I would have not if I were not playing a wanna be mechanic in the early 70's when counterfeits came about...

Hobo N.C., The pertronix EI recently failed in my 2N. Haven't totally figured out the reason so replaced with NAPA points. I don't remember the brand but points and condenser were $35.00 . Good spring plus a brass strip on the point tensioning spring and the rubbing block is fiber. Good points are difficult to find.

The company that manufactures Blue Streak ignition parts is "Standard Motor Products Inc." Blue Streak is their best quality line and I believe they also sell a lesser quality line for those who don't want to pay for a premium product.

Here's what the guy said at YT. Tisco re-packages the bluestreak point set in their set. How can you tell the difference?

Among other differences, the Blue Streak set has a phonelic rubbing block, a copper ribbon conductor aside the steel spring and ventilated contacts (or at least it once did.)

The diffenences are striking, hence the premium price.

If they have a plastic rubbing block, they are not the premium set.

The BlueStreak part number as Bruce said is FD-6769x.

The same part number without the "x" is still Standard Ignition and

comes in a box that says BlueStreak, but they're not the premium set.
The premium sets are also ventilated.

At least that's the way they come from my local parts store.

No.

Bluestreak is the trademark for the premium line of ignition parts sold by Std. Ign.

TISCO markets inexpensive, Mexican made (unless supplier change within the last couple of years) components.

Well It may be buyer be ware... If you look at the parts pages for a 2N the part number advertised for Blue Streak points is A0NN12107ABS

Copied from the parts page:

Distributor Point Set

Distributor Point Set - Point set, Blue Streak premium quality. For models 8N, 9N, 2N (Early). (Part No: A0NN12107ABS at $27.84

Ignition Kit

Ignition Kit - Ignition kit, less rotor. Contains points, gauge, and condenser for Front Mount Distributor. For 8N, 9N, 2N (Part No: ATK6FF) at $11.48

This is what I bought;

Ignition Kit With Rotor, Front Mount Distributor - Premium quality Blue Streak points (A0NN12107ABS), rotor, condenser, and gauge For 2N, Early 8N, 9N. (Part No: APN12000ABSR)

There's not a emoticon for this...

Funny how things change. Years ago there was one little independent auto parts store in our town, but he carried 2 or 3 of the leading brands of most things. Blue Streak being one of them. None of the old time mechanics would buy them, said they were junk. They bought Motorcraft or AC or anything but Blue Streak. Now they are the best?Seems to me we don't have much to pick from any more.

That's an INTERESTING perspective... I just turned 56 today, cut my teeth on this stuff, and never had a complaint/problem with Standard/Blue Streak points.

A local auto parts store has sold them for a LONG time, and I've never heard of anyone else complaining, either. My son works there and I just asked him, and he said they still sell quite a few, and he can't remember any complaints, either. (He's worked there on and off, for 10 years.

I don't think so, but you best ask YT.

TISCO points carry a TISCO number. Re below, Blue Streak should have a Blue Streak number.

Bluestreak has long been a Std. Ign. trademark, at least since the mid 1960s, and probably since registration.
