In the ad below I spotted the odd opening in the hood then followed a link in the identify your tractor thread below and noticed that this might have some rare parts on it

[b:b6b99325aa][i:b6b99325aa]Hood, and wheel hubs...say that it is a very early 8N....IF...the serial# says it is actually of a 1947 vintage.
The "odd" looking hole you see in the rear side of the hood, is just the air-intake, for the oil-bath breather!!!!, and, missing it's cover!!
No rare parts seen on that 'N', as far as I can see.!!!???

thought it would be for this. But didn't realize they were on all 8N's I almost bough what I was told wa an 8N a few weeks ago and it didn't have this breather or the opening.

Glen.......that is a dealer installed optional extra for operating in extra DUSTY conditions. In the long ago time, weed control consisted of "shovels" scraping the dry dirt which for some reason made dust. The vanes actually act like a centrifugal fan and throws the dust down into the removable glass jar. Usually today contain small miniature green'n'yellow toy tractor. ........cauph-cauph Dell
