How the heck are ya supposed to remove that thing. I have tried pounding, heating, cooling (that was lots of fun), and trying to twist it out. It has not budged. My next step I guess is to try and drill it out but I am not sure I can get it onto my drill press. Its not tapered is it? Is there some trick to it? Any tips would appreciated :) Thanks.

The surest way to get it out is to remove the link and use a press to push it out and push in the new one.

I made a pusher installer from a steering wheel remover tool. Had to make a backing plate that would fit behind the link. It works pretty good.

Make sure the pin is not swollen on the part that was driven into the link. If iit is grind it down to the level of the link before you push it out or you could enlarge the hole in the link. You don't want to do that!

I sometimes use a punch of appriate size to drive one out but have to have help. Somebody to hold a heavy bar behind the link with hammering on the pin.

I've replaced many and never found one that I could not remove/replace using a properly sized punch and a 2 1/2 lb. hammer and a 1/4" drive deep socket and 4 lb. hammer as back-up.

The back-up is absolutely necessary and you will need a helper to hold the back up socket and hammer.

No need to disassemble anything.
