I just got a 8n, it has been worked on by a number of mechanics no one could get it running.
After playing with the wires I got it running and noticed a ping, removed the head and the second sleve will pull out easily. How can I put this back in or do I need to get a oversize sleeve?
also where can I find the tube the plug wires run in? thanks Larry

Later 8N's did not use the tube, but had a circular bracket that attaches to the top of the head to hold the wires up off the head. What year is your 8N?

That is not saying much about the mechanics who worked on your tractor. If you removed the sleeve, there is no way that I know to get it back in without pulling the pan and removing the piston. I would inspect the sleeve and see if it shows discoloration and or scoring. If you have the .040 steel sleeves you may rebore for the .090 cast iron sleeves. The only thing that would bother me about a very loose sleeve would be the thermal conductivity of the sleeve to the water jacket.
If you have not pulled the sleeve out, inspect it as above. I would put the engine back together and run it.. You may opt to do an overhaul at this time. The ping (detonation) could be caused by carbon, lousy gas, incorrect timing, but could also be caused by a very loose sleeve that is unable to conduct heat to the block. I think though that it would show some dark discoloration. I am guessing at this point.
Good luck on whatever you decide

Oh, forgot obout the ignition tube. They are available at CT Farm & Country (Used) for $12.99. I forgot to mention that when the engine heats up the liner may expand enough as not to cause a prolem. Notice, that the operative word here is "MAY"
