Has anyone had any luck just replacing the rings?
My 45 2N smokes bad.Someone said all I need is replace the rings. What is your thoughts.
Thanks

That might help but at best it is a crap shoot. Most of the time the rings, rod, main and valves all wear about the same so if all you do is one thing sooner or later it will come back and kick you in the back sides for not doing it all

Mike the sleeves at the top where the ring travel ends. If .005 or less wear , rings will do it. If more than .010 better replace the sleeves.

I hooked up my blade today and it does"nt have enought power to drag the blade just pop and spit and chokes down. I think I don"t have any compression.Time to shoot the old girl.
Thanks "Old 49"

The oil pressure is 35 cold an 10-20 hot.No compression gauge. The engine will spin after you tur off the key about 20 times.

il pressure is good enough..

All it needs is a good complete engine rebuild and it will be good to go for another 50 plus years. Cost to rebuild one is cheaper then replacing it and if you do the work your self should be able to be done for under $1500

Thanks Guys I think I will rebuild it.After all it is a 45 2N not too many left. Thanks for all the help. "Old 49"
