2N Lift Control Spring

Another question re the 2N lift. When I pulled the lift cover off today, I noticed that I could move the control spring around, but I didn't notice this until after everything was disconnected. Compare the position in these two photos:

I was able to "bend" the spring off to the side (note the difference near the base of the spring). Is this normal when everything is disconnected, or does it indicate I need to adjust the spring tension? Thanks in advance!

Walker.......ya gotts green grass in South Dakota???

Yep, what you see (displaced) is because INSIDE yer lift cover the plunger rod (inside the heavy spring) is supposed to be connected to yer "tuning-fork" part of yer 3-point lift fork which connect to yer control valve down under all yer hydraulic fluid.

What'cha gotts yer hand on is often tightly rusted, yet is adjustable to set the heavy "draught-spring) tension when fully assembled for Ferguson's innovative 3-point traction control. See yer I&T FO-4 manual for procedure.

Should be able to puller'part and un-freeze the fine-threads yoke (heat and loosen oil are yer friends) re-assemble with anti-seize grease. and replace the felt seal under the triangle plate bolts. (water leaks) ......Dell

That'd be Southern California, where the grass is green in the winter and turns brown come spring.

Thanks, Dell. That's part of the overhaul procedure I didn't know I needed to do! I had seen the adjustment procedure in the FO-4, but was wondering if this was an indication that adjustment (or parts replacement) was needed.

You can try turning the yoke which is threaded to the end of the rod under the big spring. Don't use too much force or you can break something inside.

Lots of the time it takes a heating or cutting touch to get that yoke threaded part really red hot before it can be moved. I always remove the yoke once I ge it to move and then allow it to cool to room temperature on it's own and then oil it and reassemble it and tighten it till you can just turn the big spring with one hand.
