I'm putting an ampmeter in my 8N which has been converted to 12 volts. I'm not sure what to wire to the pos. and neg. terminals on the ampmeter i.e. alternator to one, battery to one? Anyone know which way to do it properly. Thanks.

Eric..... .piece of cake..... .

Ampmeter don't care which wire is connected to which terminal, but you do. It won't hurt the battery, alternator, or ampmeter to be hooked incorrectly.

Wire it in the circuit and if the meter doesn't read + when the engine is running and charging the battery; stop the engine and reverse the connections.

Hope this helps..... ..Dell

The original ammeter on the N tractor had not connections. It has only a loop that the wire goes through sorta like a trained dog.
When the system is changed from a positive ground to a negative ground the wire must be pulled out and go back in the loop from the oppisite direction to read correctly. However it is not really necessary because it will still give the proper reading just backwards and if you know that why change it.My TO 20 Ferguson has been reading backwards for the past 40 years and it hasn't caused any trouble yet.
