2n Manifold question

I am planning on replacing the manifold on my 2n. Should it be a foregone conclusion that the nuts and studs will need to be replaced? The reason I am changing it is I see that there are some major leaks. The tractor runs great if I hold the choke about half way out. If I let it in, the tractor stops running. I've replaced all three fuel screens, and just rebuilt the carb, including installing a new float. My theory is air is getting sucked into the engine around the manifold. My idle adjsutmenet screw on the carb is only about 1/2 a turn out.

Don't just throw parts at it till you know what you need. Take an unlit propane torch and with the engine running wave it around the manifold. If engine RPMs change then you have a leak some place and maybe as simple as a bad gasket. If RPMs do not change then you missed something in the carb when you rebuilt it which by the way is easy to do

Hunter........generally the steel studs don't need replacing, they may unscrew and leak radiator water 'cuz of corroded studnuts, just retighen tight. Recommend NEW BRASS 7/16-20 studnuts. (torque = 27ft/lbs) Simple, eh?

Yer side-pointing idlemix at 1/2 turn is in the "ballpark" for normal carb. But iff'n yer haffin' to pull yer choke, to keeper runnin' you have other carb problems, probably a clogged mainjet. .......Dell

The manifold that is there is really in bad shape, which is why I am replacing it. As a matter of fact, the flanges that the exhuast system attaches to are gone. Also, I can physically see (some black soot is present) where exhaust is leaking pretty bad around the manifold, so I am thinking its also drawing air in somewhere. I will take the carb back apart and clean the jets when I replace the manifold. Thanks for the help.
