2N Starter Problem

Hello, I have recently had an occasional problem with my starter. When it is at a cold start, it starts fine. After I have been running the tractor and have to start it up again, the starter wants to keep turning while the tractor has already started.

I am just trying to figure out what the problem is. About two years ago I installed the newer type starter drive. This replaced the larger spring type.

Any suggestsions would be appreciated.

Thank you!

The bendix is not disengaging. Probably a dirty/oily shaft. It needs to be squeaky clean. I'd pull the starter & see if that's the problem, but the bendix could be bad.

How can I tell if it is the switch hanging? I tried pushing on it again to see if it was stuck, but it did not do anything.

Thanks!

since it is a linkage connected switch.. I'd pull the cable from the starter itself or the startrer side of the switch.. etc.. that will rule out electric, if it stays engaged.. thus meaning mechanical, like Bruce points out..e tc.

I will have to pull the starter tonight and take a look.

Thanks for all the advice! Hopefully it just needs a good cleaning.
