Guys..... .am at the county libarary using some strange keyboard. I"ve had "major" memory scramble and I"m too cheap to pay a "professional" to reload my "stuff". Afterall, iff"n I can fixx a N-tractor, I can fixx my model-T computer. Right? (where have I heard that before?)

It all started just after NewYears when my 15yo monitor lost its red color gun. I upgraded from a 15" monitor to 19" Gateway for $29. You can"t replace TV tubes for that $$$. My WinMe PnP didn"t recognize my new Gateway VX920. So I got new drivers and installed them. Then my video card wouldn"t recognize my new drivers, so I got updated video drivers. (see where I"m going?)

Advised to "re-load" WinMe OS to fixx my scrambled memory, I did that so many times, I think I have my proof of ownership microsoftie-key memorized. I elected to install a spare 8Gb HD to store all my "stuff" while I do the ultimate sanction to my 22Gb HD, FDisk and re-format, then re-copy all my stuff from the 8Gb HD.

After futzzin"round with my spare 8Gb HD, came to the conclusion, it must be formated for Macintosh "cuz I could never access it even with DOS. I just got back from a computer surplus store where I bought another 8Gb HD for $5. (I told you I was cheap) "guarenteed to speak windows". We"ll see.

I see the same old problems being asked and answered by some good ol"guys..... ...Dell, still bumbed by SeaHawks SuperBowl LOSS

Hi Dell,

I would think that an electronics guru and N sparkie-miester like you could fix any old computer.

Of course, I agree with Ole Country Boy, why don't you break down and buy you a new computer with your name on it already.

But then where would be the challenge in that, right?

I'm a little like you in that I like a challenge occasionally, but, I also like my new Dell Pentium 4 computer with windows XP.

Rick

Aw man! Well, I'm glad you're still hangin' in there to get it working again. I'm even impressed you can hook up new hardware to things that still have Scuzzies on them! You've got a lot more patience than I would, though I am trying to learn. :-)

Just a thought regarding your computer problems. You aren't using a "Dell" are you? If you aren't maybe you should. Good luck

Dell, I have to thank you for a posting from the archives with the 3 Jet sizes for the Marvel/Schebler Carb. The previous owner had mixed them up and made up for it by putting a wire tie on the choke. I couldn't have guessed the right ones w/o the sizes. Thanks
Dan

You must not have been using the right size sledge to fix your computer. Try a heavier one.

I am also bummed about 'the game', luckily I have been a Steelers fan since waay back. No matter, I consider 'the HAWKS' (GO HAWKS) my local team. They are just on the wrong side of the border (but close). AND , I have a Commador(sp) Vic-20 you can have cheap !

Dell - glad to hear it's your 'puter and not you missing. Try giving her a shot of ether - maybe she'll start.
Oh, and I'd rather see old Rooney up there getting the Lombardi than Allen.

Dell,
It is the consensus of many computer repair personal the Windows 98SE is the best operating system for older computers. I"ve got it in all my computers that are to old for XP.

Hey Dell.. As you've found out, Win MA is/was probably inspired by the folks that brought us the SOS tranny.

It's a red-headed half breed of an os meant to get people off win98 and get them ready for xp.. It was an easy change.. people always want new.. so.. they switch from 98 to me.. then find out how bad me is and find it is easier to go to xp then revert to 98.. neat scam huh!

Hope you get it all taken care of.

Dell,

If you know someone that has a Mac, they should be able to reformatt your drive for MS-DOS. Big issue will be finding someone with an IDE disk intreface that has a second disk on their SCSI buss that they can boot off of. Your drive would have to go in place of their IDE boot drive. Of course, that means opening up the Mac, so needs to be someone that knows their way around Mac hardware. I be happy to do it, but I"m 3000 miles away.

Good luck.
Larry
