I am overhauling an 8n. The piston has a slight dome top and 4 rings. At the CNH dealer today and they said all ford pistons are 3 ring. The piston has a casting no. A3113 on it does anyone know if its a TISCO or a M&W.

Bruddies Pop..... ...the early N-Engine pistons were 4-ring; 2-compression and 2-oil rings. Theory was that 2nd oil ring would reduced oil consumption. Well yeah, it controlled so much oil that the cylinders wore out too fast.

Modern N-Pistons are 3-ring, with a very improved 3-piece oil control ring. 3-rings also have less friction and therefore are more efficent.

You can still order 4-ring pistons and 4-ring re-ring sets. But iff'n yer doing a full engine overhaul with new sleeves and pistons, gitt the 3-ringers. Tell your wet-behind-the-ears CNH parts person to read his parts books better..... ....Dell
