Lift works fine a few times, but then it doesn't.

A month or so ago, I adjusted my hydraulics according to Zane's booklet and jig. Everything seemed fine for a while. But I've been having problems with the lift getting more erratic and useless as I use it.

This morning I stood on the drawbar (235 pounds) and my wife cycled the lift up and down about 15 times. It seemed perfectly fine at first, but by the fifteenth time there was quite a bit of vibration and it wouldn't lift all the way.

Before I even look at a wrench, does anyone have any suggestions about what might be wrong?

Thanks much,
Jerry

It stops working when I'm using it. My test was just an attempt a isolating the problem a bit.

I walked up to the tractor that had been sitting for over a week. I started it up. I stood on the drawbar and it raised me up fine at first, but after a few cycles it stopped working: it was vibrating and not lifting all the way after the tenth time.

(The hydraulic oil is new and still looks it)

Being intermittent might mean that the check valve (aka safety valve, or relief valve) may be weak. If you hook a load on the arms, remove the right inspection plate and cycle the arms up and down until it does it again, you might see turbulence in the oil on the rear side of the pump. This may indicate the valve is leaking by sometimes causing the loss of lift and the vibrations. HTH. Steve 8N 169302

Jerry, I guess I'm having a hard time understanding your problem. Does the hydraulics act abnormally under working conditions or just when you test cycle it? More info please. Steve 8N 169302
