Hobo NC Look close at the picture you can see a bolt horizantal through the pulley and the shaft.appears to be 5/6 or 3/8 inch.

Hobo -- The pully is exacly like the crankshaft pully that was on my 50 8N before I replaced it. Take Don B's advice and it should come right off. If necessary, use an impact wrench to loosen the bolt holding in on the crankshaft. Then some penetrating oil, let it sit, and it should come right off. If the main seal has been leaking any the job should be even easier. Note though that I replaced mine because the previous owner had distorted the original trying to get it off.

Yes, I looked at it closer this morning. Could it be that someone tried to remove the nut, failed, and then attempted to grind it off, bash it in or who knows what over 50 years? Though, from the picture it looks like a different metal, where the bolt should be??? I suppose a guy could grind it off flush with the pulley and try to get a better look at just what it is. Once it's flush, it might be possible to pull it. If that doesn't work he could carefully (without getting into the crankshaft) drill just below the surface of the pulley say 1/8", soak with penetrating oil and try to pull it once more. My pulley was identical but had been distorted by the previous owner when he tried to remove it. It came off easily for me however and I replaced it with a new one. Good luck with this one. Will be anxious to learn what finally works on this.

If it is a geneator pulley (and I agree that it looks like one) just clamp the armature in a vise padded vy a pair of short 1x4 boards and wrap an old belt around the pulley. It may need a bit more, but it's generally do-able.

Remove the front end of the tractor.Remove the ratchet nut or sometimes just a bolt. You may have to "poke" a soft cotton rope into #1 sparkplug hole to keep crank from turning. After you have removed the bolt or ratchet that is holding it on,you should be able to pull it off.Nothing else to hold it except a key. don b

Hobo,
Looks 'zackaly like a generator pulley. The one that's threaded on with RH threads. Does he know the shaft diameter?

Hobo has been giving me a lot of help in trying to figure ny crankshaft pulley out. I really appreciate his time, and hope I have not been too much of a pest. I want to clear up on thing though. It is not the "wrong picture." It is not even my picture. It was posted by somebody else on the same forum Link
It>Link just happens to be exactly like my pulley, right down to the red paint.t

It is a Ford 2N,9N,8N 4 cylinder gas engine, please Confirm this Owen, You may repost this so it will go to the top of the page, not that i don't beleive ya its just not standard set up fer a N. The front crank pulley on a N is a slip fit so it must have a bolt in the crank to keep it tight.

There is no question about it being an 8N. Don't forget, this is not the pulley that I had on this tractor 10 years ago. I had the engine rebuilt back then, and just discovered a couple of weeks ago that the pulley has been changed. It used to take a crank. Now it is not hollow.

I do not know my way around these postings, so I do not know how to bring it to the top.
