i have just purchased a 1944 2N ford with a sherman step-up transmission. how and where do you check the oil level, and add lubricant, if necessary to the sherman unit?

Jim..... ...its good that you should ask, but donnna worry. The main tranny has an "oil-slinger" that actually pumps the sherman over-full of hydro-tranny oil thru the mainbearing shaft opening. When you turn yer engine off, the over-fill drains back into the main tranny, thus constantantly circulating the oil in the dealer installed Sherman Aux Tranny. Just keep yer 5 gals of hydro-tranny under the mark on the dipstick by yer right heel. Too full and yer oil slopps out the rearaxle trumpet mouth seal and greases yer brakes (not good)..... ..Dell
