Pulling brake shoes off 1950 8n and i had 2 springs on brake shoes.I have been reading archive posts and some talk of 3 springs .Which is correct and does any one have a pic of the setup that they could post? .. thks bt

Probably due to the weight of the brake pedal or to keep brake from grabbing. Read it somewhere, but can't remember. (senior moments) :-)

It's not the same but close. You should have 3 springs:

A secondary spring, a shoe retracting spring, and a brake adjusting spring. I'll scan a pic out of my parts manual for the 8N this evening if someone else hasn't helped you by then.

There are two springs on the right and three on the left. The long stiff spring is in the front and the smaler one is in the rear. On the left side only there is a medium size spring that hooks to the top shoe same place as the big spring.The other end hooks in a hole in the front middle of the shoe suppot plate on the drumb side. Hope this makes since.
