When I built my own wiring harness on my 800 I went with 10 ga everywhere, even the lights. However, I have read here that 12 ga is plenty. Best tip is to run a separate ground wire from the lights back out the hollow bolt and attach to a good ground somewhere. Many recommend running them all the way back to where the Pos battery cable is attached to the chassis. My 6V lights improved dramatically when I finally followed that advice.

Sounds like good advice to me. Didn't know if 12 was enough on a 6 volt. Love the machine (NAA) though and driving after dark happens every now and again.

That hollow bolt really isn't big enough to fit two 10 ga wires through, it can be done, but 12 ga will be less frustrating.

Since you're working on an NAA (similar in appearance to my 800) I'll tell you where I grounded my lights. The round front emblem is held on with two screws which are accessed from under the hood door in front of the radiator. I grounded my headlights on one of those screws, after sanding off the paint around the hole to get a good connection.

Actually, 14 gauge is sufficient for most of the harness and use 12 gauge where all the circuits come together and go to the fuse and switch. There is insignificant voltage drop with 14 gauge and two 30-35watt lamps with 6v even. Use 16 gauge inside the lamp if you want.
