Is the starter on All N's the same? Have A friend who has A 9N and can't get starter to work. Will run off tractor, but when he puts it on the tractor It does nothing. He has had it in 3 or 4 different starter shops, and can find nothing wrong with it. VB Ala.

Sounds like the classic poor ground connection to me. Check to make sure the starter case is grounding to the block and also check to make sure the ground cable from the battery is clean at both ends.

Are you using '0' or larger cables? You should be.

N - joy.

I agree with Dell, what does do nothing mean? Remember these old tractors used big cables and the connection must be bright and shiny. If it works on the work bench then the problem is elsewhere in the starting system. Have you bypassed your starter switch?
Have a very good New Year

VB..... .....according to my Ford Master Parts Catalog, Starter, 8N-110001, eff: all, 39-52.

That means you can use an 8N starter in a 9N/2N, but you can't use a 9N starter in an 8N because you can't mount the 8N starter solenoid on a 9N starter. (no holes).

You write..... .."but when he puts it on the tractor It does nothing"..... .define does nothing, maybe we can help..... ....Dell
