Tried Zane's suggestions on correcting my lift going up and staying up. Cranked the tractor and of course the lift went up. I removed right side inspection plate and felt the ball on the end of the control arm and it was in socket of the intake valve as it should be. I was able to move the rocker lever what I considered to be the full range of motion. I did this several times. With the bushhog up, should the bushhog have dropped when I "opened" the exhaust valve? Cranked the tractor and it still went up and would not respond to control lever. Repeated the above described procedure again and tried to lift it. This time however it went up and then dropped back down and I can control the height with the control lever now.

From looking in the archives, I think I should now clean it out with kerosene and refill with clean oil (put new oil in this summer by the way). It seems the proper procedure is to pull the plugs and pour the kerosene through as fast as you can. Let it settle, then pour through again (minus dirt at bottom). Do this several times until no dirt or contaminants in bottom. Now to the questions. Do you leave all three plugs out? Will the kerosene come out of all three plugs or will it stay mainly in the segment with the pump? Would it help to plug it and let it sit to help break it up? Just want to be sure I have the procedure down.

Thanks for the advice and help!

Glynn..... .....Its good to clean your hydro oil sump. Tranny usually doesn't get glunked and diffy generally stays pretty clean too, just your hydropump gets most of the settlement. Pouring kero or diesel is too slow.

Heres what I do, I bought an "el-cheepo" garden pressure tank sprayer and use what ever is cheapest, paint thinner, mineral spirits, kerosene, diesel. Its the pressure that really does the trick. I do recycle some of it several times..... ....BUT I ALWAYS do a final rinse with fresh clean solvent..... ....Dell

Cleaned out the hydraulic/transmission reservoir this evening. Actually used a couple of methods. Drained the fluid out. Had bought 7 gallons of kerosene on the way down. Removed both inspection covers and used pumpup sprayer to begin knocking off "gook". Then flushed it with a couple gallons of kerosene. Sprayed some more and then put plugs back in poured in a couple of more gallons let is set a minute or two and drained it. More spraying, followed by clean flush with rest of kerosene and a little more spraying. End result is a pretty clean hydraulic/transmission reservoir, I think. Looked good to me. Filled it back up and lift works fine right now. Will find out for sure this weekend. Thanks to Zane and Dell for the help!
