I have a Side dist. 8N that runs great, shows a charge when running, starts all day but when left overnight the battery goes down so far that it wont start in the morning. Has rebuilt gen, new wiring, new volt reg. Battery shows good when tested, I don't know what to check next. Thanks.

John,

I fought that battle for a whole summer. Come to find out....it was an old worn out ignition switch.

Do Danny's trick and if no spark, leave the cable off all night. If it starts next morning then problem is not the battery. Next leave the hot wire off the regulator all night. Oh and if it don't start when you left the battery cable off it has to be a bad battery. I don't see how it could be the generator as it is the regulators job to disconnect it when the engine is shut off. Hope this helps

Sounds like you have a short somewhere. Take a battery cable off. With the switch off, quickly touch the cable back to the battery post. If you get a spark, you have a short.
