On a 9N do I need both ??

As I understand it...

ORC - Over-Running Coupler ... Keeps attachment from running tractor when clutch is disengaged.

ORC - Over-rideing Clutch ... Prevents shock to driveline when (not if) I hit something like a rock or stump with mower. (Also called "slip clutch" by local TSC guy.)

ORC is an Over-Running Coupler and does exactly what you describe.

A Slip-Clutch is a Slip-Clutch. This is on the driveline of the implement and takes the place of a 'shearpin' or 'shear-bolt' that snaps when you hit something with the implement.

Some people erooneusly call an Over-Running-Coupler by the term Over-Running-Clutch.

I have never heard anyone call a Slip-Clutch and ORC though...

Two different animals and they both have their place...
