I have a 9n. It is either all the way up or down. No in between. Somtimes it will hold up with pto off but most of the time it leaks right back down.

Whoops! I didn't read all of the message the first time.

Leaking right back down, you mean that the lift arms come down right away when you put in the clutch or turn off the PTO?

That is a different problem. I have never worked that before, but the problem for rapid leakdown might be found with your pressure relief valve, or with the piston and rings in the lift.

If I remember correctly, you should inspect the pump while it is working through the observation ports to see where there is fluid squirting or leaking. An archive search should help you find the cause.

Jay - do an archive search for the Zane Thang - it is worth the money.

Because the 9N was the original category 1 three point hitch, it's creator Harry Fergusson only envisioned it being used for plowing. Accordingly, its controls are meant to keep an implement in the ground, or above the ground. This is called draft control. Being able to keep an implement at various positions requires position control, which wasn't available until the 8N model.

The Zane thang is an 80 dollar add-on that gives your 9N (and 2Ns) position control. I have one on my 2N and am very satisfied. And don't ask for pictures, or description, It is kept a secret on this board in respect to its creator, Zane Sherman. Zane checks in occassionaly with advice. Read and learn from him.
