I purchased a headlight switch from Dennis Carpenter. It has a 20A fuse and two leads coming out.

Obviuosly one goes to the lights.

Where is the best / correct place to hook up the lead to get power?

I don't have the original wire harness to work with.

Thanks for any info!

Steve, I hooked mine direct to the negative side of the battery. It works fine unless you forget to turn them off. But most tractor lights are hooked direct. This is the way I would hook them up provided your tractor is still positive ground. John

Steve..... ...DO NOT hookup your headlight switch THROUGH your ignition switch. It can't handle the load. Hook you headlight switch to the battery side of the ignition switch somewheres. Don't know which side is which? Ignition switch "ON" goes to the infamous "ballast resistor" on the backside of your dashpanel. Again I say, DO NOT CONNECT to ignition switch ON side..... ..Dell

No one said anything about 6 or 12 volts?, guess you must have been talking 6 volts ? where as it's not an issue with 12 volts, right?

Terry..... ..heres the deal, it ain't the volts, its the amps. Amp rating is based upon area of switch contacts. Which is why you see them thar great big ol'knife switches at the power substation.

OEM ignition switch rated at 5 amps. Ignition coil needs about 3 amps so you have 2 amps to spare for whatever. Each headlight is about about 3 amps, so yer already innna hole and overdrawn with just 1 headlight. And most people want 2 headlights (grin).

Its hard to tell what your aftermarket ignition switch is rated for.

I put in a marine grade 35 amp toggle switch for my ignition switch and saved almost a volt loss across my ignition switch which is one reason, my 8N starts eazy on 6 volts. But I still don't run my lights off'n ignition switch..... ...Dell
