HI!!!

I am new in this tractor buisiness, I am a city boy turned country boy and needed something bigger than the average riding mower... just can't afford a new one.

I bought a Fergason Ford tractor and its seems to be in great running shape. The down falls are the tires and brakes, tires are a bit dry rotted.. and the right brake is tight, the left one gets covered by oil from the grease seal, in which I have been told that is normal and easy to fix. Ok... Im quite handy.

Nice paint job, new condensor coil, new points, new spark plugs, new battery ( in which the positive is hooked to the body and neg to the starter... how odd ). Its starts quick and blows no smoke. It runs fine, the stick shift is a bit loose, but stays in gear and provides a nice ride. The hydrolics and PTO work great. It comes with a woods 59 finishing mower on the back.

Im having some trouble placing the date and history on it. I want to know everything about this baby.

Here is what I have....

A blue tractor with white hood and fender
9NT48998* <--- A star is at the end
There is also a D294 on the transmission
Ferguson emblem on front below the Ford, and a front grille.

I have checked all over and can't seem to find this thing in blue. Sooooo.. Im stumped.

Thanks for everything!

Earl.

by the sound of it you have a 2n painted blue. the original colour of this tractor would be some thing like a battle ship gray. they are a great little tractor. enjoy her! dale b

Prices on good running 2N's vary quite a bit depending on their condition and nearness to big cities. If the mower is in good shape, you probably didn't get skinned too badly, but it doesn't sound like you got a steal either. I agree with Larry that it's disturbing the seller didn't fix the oil seal. They are historically troublesome on 9N and 2N tractors....the design really was a bummer. But don't let anyone fool you into thinking that fixing the rear axle seals is a snap, be prepared for some frustration and hard work unless you are a relatively competent mechanic. The archives for this page should provide you some good advice on how to go about the replacement. I have a similar problem with my 2N, and have just learned to live with lousy brakes. You might also benefit by reading the general information about 9N's and 2N's at both this site and at other linked locations. Welcome to the world of Nthusiasts.

Earl,

Sounds like you have a 1944 Ford 2N that someone has painted blue to look like the new(er) Ford/NH tractors. The 2N's start with 9N and the T is surely a 1. That would make the serial number consistant with the casting date on your tranny. The D would mean April and the last digit, 4, is for 1944. This it was cast April 29, 1944. It would take several days before it was finished machining and got to the assembly line.

You did not say where you are and that would make a difference in how good/bad the price was. In northern Virginia, for that price it should have had new tires all around. BUT that is just here, not necessarily where you are. If motor is newly overhauled that helps, but I don't like the axle seal leak not being fixed.

Regards,
Larry
