In all the info. about wire for lights. I did not see anything about, "in line fuse". Is the inline fuse a good idea or did I over-do it again?

Thanks everyone.

The newer replacement switches all have fuses. The original production switches did not. Many tractors have worked all those years without a fuse. I would prefer an in line fuse providing you have the unfused switch.

I wonder if the switch was another dealer option (choice). My '51 8N, that my father bought in 1953, still has the "as purchased" switch and it has the fuse on top behind the dash. The lights are currently on the shelf but the last time I used them (10 years) the switch still worked.

That could be likely as the fused switch appeared in the Dec. 1953 parts catalog, that is the one most commonly in use today. I have two 1951 8N's and neither had the fused switch. You must remember that Ferguson sold and distributed the Ford Tractors and parts until the late 50's and early 60's thru 7 different distributors. Since the light kits were sold thru that network they like many other parts could vary slightly from location to location and time to time.

Right-on.

I just got two switches, one for the front lights and one for the implement light, and both have fuses on the switches. Was amazed the day one of the lights didn't work and it was only a burnt fuse.

There's a fuse on the back of the original light switch, so it sounds like you did the right thing.
