before i got my ZANE THANG i made up a set of limiter chains to keep the hog level. the other day i started to think about where they hook up at the top link. it seams that they put a lot more strain on the top link ears than normal. has anyone ever heard of someone breaking off one of the ears using limiter chains? sure is a nasty thought!

Thats not funny, I just broke one today plowing snow and heard this weird sound when I was pulling the snow around a corner and it was my rear blade hitting my tire and snow chains. They keep my Link assemebly from moving to far and when it is up it keeps them tight and stops movement when driving. The small shackle broke not the ear or the chain. The blade was on a angle and it is close to one tire. The shackle was worn and that's why it broke so check them shackles for being thin to be safe. Mark H.

M.H.- Just curious, did you have braces on the lift arms when this happened to the top link?

We might be talking about different parts. The chain shackle I broke was the on on the Link Assembly Bar. The chains attach to the PTO bolts and are about a ft. long and go up to where the Box Leveling Adjuster mounts to the Link Bar. Nothing happen to the Hydralic lift Assembly Parts. My system has 2 Link Bars and one non/adjustible brace (rod) and the other one is the Leveling assembly. And those 2 parts go up to the Lift assemblys Lift Arms. Now that you mention it I don't have a Stablizer bar on mine, and I just got a bid on those parts on ebay. I will haft to look closer to mine. I missed that and they will sell for less than I can buy one for too. Mark H.

I feel dumb now! I have only had the tractor a little over 2 mos. and did not relise the Stablizer Bar was not there. But I put one on and it works a lot better snow plowing dosen't move around as much when on a angle! Been having so much fun plowing snow that I over looked it. The Rear Blade was on the tractor when I got it. Now the chains don't take so much abuse. Mark H.
