A lot of rolks around here build a bale trailer, it is like a tumble bug but you back into the bale with the forks from the round end instead of the square end. Use a boat winch to tilt up the bale and secure with a pin, you can even use a pickup. Maybe I'll get a digital camera for Christmas and post a pic.

My Jubilee will lift 4x4's with some strain. When the Jubilee was out getting new back tires and I had to move a round bale with my Allis G, I pounded a metal rod through the middle of the bale, hooked a chain from each end of the rod to the G's drawbar, and the G was able to pull the rolling bale along. Now I use my Oliver 1600 to lift them - it can lift 6x5's.

I had the same problem and solved it with a "Tumble Bug"(roll handling thing). I hook it on the front bumper and have a 12 volt battery on the foot board(it has electric brakes that breaks the thing so it will pick up the roll). It is easier handling on the front instead of the draw bar. This works great but the thing cost about $800.00. You probably already knew this but it may help others.

Gene..... sorry, ain't gonna happen. Most 8N's in good hydraulic condition can only pick up about 750# before front wheels go flappin in the breeze. Empirical testing with frontwheels chained to ground, a newly rebuilt hydraulics lifted 1200# of lead before safety valve popped.

If'n ya gotts to move round bales with 8N's, yer gonna hafta roll bale uppona stoneboat, and drag'em.

Remember, N's were built before they invented 2000# round bales of hay..... ..Dell

I have the same problem. I finally made a platform that I can drag behind my N to move the round bales. It is only about 7 inches high so we can roll the bale up on the drag and I can them move them out to the pasture. The bales we are getting are about 1000 pounds. That is about all this N will do with the drag I made. It pulls it ok once I get it started but I have to brake steer ad my front end is pretty light.

Merry Christmas

Bill
