Went up to the lake this weekend to look for deer sign. The 2N was waiting patiently there but I hardly so much as glanced at her.
Last summer though I put it to work with a new 5' KK rotary mower and cut some nice trails through the woods. You should see how the deer have moved onto those trails. I guess they don't like walking through brush any more than we do.
The bucks have scraped them up all over the place.
Rifle season opens this Saturday. We're getting kind of eager here.
Anybody else chasing Odocoileus Borealis (white tail)this year?

Yessir!

Heading up to Centerville, "the deerest place in Texas" on Thurs. Season opens Sat morning and I can't wait. All food plots were completed with my 8N. This time of year, she can rest. Good luck to all and stay safe.

Niels

I'm in the Thumb of Michigan ( farm country )...we see deer all the time and the firearm season opens November 15. It use to be an unofficial holiday ( still is for me ), no work, school, etc. Its bow season now, but I have not had time to get out. Pheasant and quail all over also...I love this time of year!

I'll have my grandson with me as we search out our place. It's great to be out there with the kids and even better when we get one. We're between Houston and Waco, TX and the deer are plentiful.

I just got back from elk and deer hunting Fri. Saw a small herd of elk, but couldnt get to them. Did get a long shot at a Bull, but just moved him on. I did get a nice 4 point (10 eastern) Muley. Hung at 262. Haven't seen that much fat on one in a long time.
Have a safe and enjoyable hunt.

In Illinois we have a shotgun season the weekend before and after thanksgiving. A lot of the work we do requires local municipality aproval. When a clint brings us a job in october we always tell them that this is goig to take a month longer than expected since most of the guys around here take vacation to go hunting, as will I.

I have been watching my property as well and there seems to be either a short deer or a heavy one lurking about. I have a woven wire fence around the propety and the tops of the fence in several places are bent over like something fell on them.

I guess we will find out, huh.

Not chasing them. Trying to stay out of their way here in south central Kansas. They are very over-populated around here. The state has added several programs to allow us to take multiple antlerless but it's to little to late I think. About 30 miles SE of me there is a herd of about 600 deer running together. They are wiping out 80 acres of soybeans in a night. I love to hunt em' but they are getting pretty pesty here.

Around where my dad lives (Central WI) the deer are so thick that we're having three seasons this year. The first season already was -- I didn't go because it was raining and blowing pretty good that week. The second season opens the weekend before Thanksgiving -- I'll be out hunting then for sure.

The last time they were encouraging us to shoot lots of deer (a few years ago), my dad shot eight deer before noon on opening day.

My neighbor has a place he farms that is near the Shenandoah National Park in northern Virginia. He's had problems with bear over the years, but this year they cleaned out ALL his sweet corn. He got a kill permit from the Game Warden and got four but too late to save the corn.

I think the only way that the deer population will be brought into control will be to eliminate the restriction on a hunter selling the meat. Then I'd let the farmers that are loosing their crops (80 acres of beans has got the HURT!!) "harvest" deer just like they do other livestock. You might need to set limits at some point but now there are so many being killed on the roads, with often disastrous results for some person, that they need thinning real bad. The problem I see around my place is that most hunters ONLY want the big rack buck. So the does go "free" and keep making more deer.

My $0.02 - not worth much, especially these days! :-)

Ah Yes - this is the weekend that 90% of us Minnesotans live for. I am the happy owner of a 2n and 8n. I was cultivating my summer fallow on my little 100 acre spread and saw lots of deer sign. We have an overabundance of deer that are creating a traffic hazard. Had a fatality this past week when a deer jumped into the windshield of a car. 6 am on Saturday morning, I will be sneaking out to my stand and hunting with my dad and brothers like we always have the past 50 years. Forget about terrorists and Bin for awhile. Safe Hunting everyone

Yep, I chased 4 of them this morning...one across the dam to my pond and 3 down the shoulder of the road on the way to work. Last night I spotted one when I let my dogs out. They ran by it about 20 yards barking their heads off at my neighbors dogs and the deer didn't even move. There's usually a half dozen of them bedded down in the dry creek bed at night. They think our property is a gourmet restaurant.

I also reclaimed some of our trails through the woods this year with a brush disc (I do not own a Ford, but am a fellow tractor fan and MN deer hunter). The only maintenance our trails have had in the last twelve years is the removal of dead fall. Deer traffic seems to be increasing in those areas. Good luck and hunt safe!

Took the 8n out to NW texas to my place back about a month ago, leveled out camp with the box blade and then plowed up around the feeders and planted Oats. Can't wait till this weekend.
4 more days and a wake-up.

They have them here in Alabama. Was working on the tractor the other afternoon and a nice 6 point came out in my green field and watched for a while. I've notcied that if you are on the tractor, they don't pay a lot of attention to you.I've got 60 acres here near the Natchez Trace Parkway in Colbert County Alabama on the banks of the Tennessee River. Saw 18 last year on the first afternoon of the season in a 7 acre field I have.

Got a couple of big does who visit regularly up at the farm - two weeks ago for a period of about five nights they showed up every night at the same time to feed in the tall grass of the uncut hay field - my pup, (Vizsla), would point them for me from the trailer - got to the point he would go and sit out and wait for them to come out and point them out to me about 500 feet away. Too bad cant use him to hunt the deer or turkey in Wisconsin, in Europe they use the Vizsla not only to hunt birds but boar and deer as well.
