I bought a '46 2n running rough. I put on new carburator, points, condensor, coil, plugs, plug wires, water pump, battery, and new gas, and it still will hardly pull its own weight. I am ready to give up. Any ideas, folks? Thanks.

If it idles well, it may just be starving for fuel.

The way I clean my points is to fold a skinny strip of 600 emery in half lengthwise so it is emery on both sides. I rotate the engine until the points are closed. Then I open the points with a small screwdriver and let them close on the emery and draw the paper through. For the first few passes you can apply pressure on the point arm with the screw driver, then lighten up with the last pull throughs to polish the points.

T

Been doing it that way for 50 years.

Chinesium parts?

Better to keep OEM and repair with quality parts. Don't install until you have checked it over with a multi-meter.
I'd not trust the parts, let alone that points/timing were set correctly..... ..

Hello JC welcome to YT! I will add did you check fuel flow to the carb? Needs to run out of the carb drain plug in a continuous stream and not slow to a dribble. There may be a small screen in the fitting where the fuel line attaches to the carb, it would stick inside the carb so the fitting has to be pulled out to check it. You are new here so we have no idea of your mechanical knowledge level. The carb should have a main jet and idle mixture adjustment needles. This means that it may not be set to work properly on your engine without adjustment. After the new plugs were installed did you ever run it real rich causing black smoke? If so this can quickly foul new plugs and they may not fire properly. If they are black and sooty clean with carb cleaner, wire brush and compressed air.

Jungle Cat ,First do a compression check on all four cylinders, 75psi or more,it could have burnt or stuck valves.

Check the firing order FIRING ORDER IS 1,2,4,3 CCW,is it correct
Check point gap,.015 clean contacts with card or brown paper bag.

My inclination would have been to check the compression before throwing a lot of expensive parts at it.

What did you set the point gap at?? Front mount which is has the points need to be set at 0.015. Also as another guy said check your firing order it is easy to get a couple mixed up and it will run but lack power if you have 2 switched

I triple checked firing order. 4 o clock nipple to #4 cylinder helped me get it right.

Rebuild your old carb.
New ones from the land of almost right
have a bad reputation.

New points may not be any better than the old ones. They often have a tiny bit of corrosion on them. Open them, slip a piece of brown paper between them and pull the paper through. That may be all you need.
